For our 'The Pink Beatles Event' project, we were asked to do presentations in groups. However, we decided to do three separate presentations as each person in our group are taking responsibility for one of the three songs we have been assigned. I, myself have taken responsibility for creating a visual for "Another Brick In The Wall" by Pink Floyd. I am not completely certain of which version of the song will be performed at the event. However, I am assuming it is "The Happiest Days Of Our Lives" section. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, my powerpoint did not work in the pitch. However, I ill leave it below: As you can see from the above document, there are only really headings and a few images. Therefore, I also wrote a project proposal, which I will also include below. As you can see from my two documents, I have listed my ideas for my visual and the research I need to do. Overall, I believe the pitch went good, but not perfect as I had some technical difficulties with setting up the PowerPoint and I was not prepared for that. However, I hope to improve my organisational skills in the future. I am overall confident that I will do well in this project as I do have ideas and all I need to do is the preparation and research and keep posting in my production diary after I have a day shooting.

Unit 9 &10: 2.1: The Pink Beatles Event: Project Introduction & Assigning Production Roles9/23/2016 The Pink Beatles Event is and event at which the music students within the college will be performing Pink floyd and The Beatles songs. As media students, we have been asked to create visuals to project whilst the music students are performing. I myself, along with my two classmates have been assigned three songs, two by The Beatles and one by Pink Floyd. I have listed the songs and our roles in the making of each visual below.
Pink Floyd: Another Brick In The Wall: Director: Megan Telford Producer: Megan Telford Camera: Michael Halbert Editor: Ethan Walsh The Beatles: Back In The USSR: Director: Ethan Walsh Producer: Megan Telford Camera: Ethan Walsh Editor: Ethan Walsh Magical Mystery Tour: Director: Michael Holbert Producer: Megan Telford Camera: Ethan Walsh Editor: Michael Holburt Overall, so far, our group seem to be happy with our roles and are confident that we will be able to complete these visuals to a good standard. Unit 9 & 10: 1.1: The Pink Beatles Event: Research: Pink Floyd: Audience Expectations For A Live Gig9/22/2016 As stated in my previous Pink Floyd blog post (about their style), Pink Floyd use a lot of coloured lighting in their live gigs and use a lot of projected visuals. For example, in the video below, where Pink Floyd perform 'Comfortably Numb' at PULSE, they use many types of coloured lighting a variety of different types of lights. As you can see from the above video, Pink Floyd use lasers to begins with and they move slowly. Then, the colours of the lights change and the lighting is rather calm until the chorus of the song when there are several colours of lighting going on at the same time and their are simple projections being projected on the screen behind the stage. This gives something to keep the audience entertained other than the music and 'makes up' for the band showing practically no personality on stage.
Also, when I looked into what kind of people like Pink Floyd, I found that there is no specific age group that like Pink Floyd's music o performances. They're timeless in a way. Therefore, there is not a specific age group I can cater to. However, I do intend to include as many techniques as possible. As I stated in my last post about Pink Floyd, it is evident they like to write songs based on social issues and current affairs. This is an admirable thing I think as not many artists do this and I think we all need to be talking about current affairs more and music is a great way to do this. Despite the fact that "Another Brick In The Wall" was released in 1979 (as part of Pink Floyd's album "The Wall"), the issues discussed in the following videos are still very much relevant today. I will be analysing this video I will be analysing the lyrics of the song and how I can create visuals from the lyrics and I will also discuss some of the metaphors used in the video. You can see me analyse this video in the second video listed below (bear in mind that the music video listed below is lifted from Pink Floyd's 1982 film "The Wall"). Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall (Part Two)/The Happiest Days Of Our Lives:Above you can see the music video for "Another Brick In The Wall" and my video discussing the meaning behind the lyrics of the video and I discuss the various metaphors/representations used in the video.
Once again, just like any other band, The Beatles had their own unique style of music. However, throughout their career as a band, The Beatles explored several different genres of music. Throughout their career, The Beatles released 28 studio albums and 63 singles and are considered to be one of the most influential music groups of all time. Below I have listed some of The Beatles' songs (including the two songs our group is making visuals for) and I will be analysing their style and how The Beatles style of music evolved through their career. Paul McCartney — Back In The USSR (Live in Kiev 2008):Unfortunately, I was unable to find a live performance of The Beatles performing this song. Therefore, I found a performance of Paul McCartney in Kiev from 2008 performing this song instead. Unlike Pink Floyd, McCartney shows personality on stage (as did The Beatles during their career). This may make the music more commercialised as people in the audience will be focussing on the actual musician instead of the music perhaps. However, in my opinion, the musician showing some personality on stage/in live performances is a good thing because this can make the live performance a lot more fun for the audience and musician. This song is evidently about a social issue which is very different from The Beatles early music, which was more fun and less serious. However, the actual music is still very upbeat and fun sounding, which is like the early music. Magical Mystery Tour-Live Paul Mccartney:Once again, I unfortunately could find any live performances form The Beatles of this song. However, I did again find a Paul McCartney performance. From this performance, it seems that this song is a very fun one in terms of visuals and the actual song. The visuals used in this performance are very colourful and bright. This is probably a representation of the era that "The Magical Mystery Tour" album was actually released in (i.e. the era of LSD, acid trips, etc.). Therefore, this album was obviously a very upbeat one and I have not heard the entire album so I cannot really give a full analysis on the lyrics of the album. However, just from the visuals in this one performance, I can see that this album was obviously written in a rather psychedelic era of music. The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night (Live In Paris 1965):Now, compare the above live performance to the previous two. The song mainly. This song is much more about fun and everyday living than the above songs (especially "Back In The USSR"). This shows just how much The Beatles' music changed throughout their career and how much their attitudes to certain things changed over time. The above performance of "A Hard Day's Night" is from The Beatles' live performance in Paris in 1965. This was towards the end of the touring years. However, you cans till tell that this era of The Beatles was music more light hearted than the later years of their career. Overall, The Beatles have experimented with several different kinds of music. It started with rock/pop music, inspired by influences such as Elvis Presley. Then their style matured into a more worldly style, including instruments like the sitar and then brass band were being used. The Beatles' music was ultimately an ever changing thing, especially from the end of the touring years to the end of their career as a band.
The Beatles are an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960 with members Paul McCartney (piano and vocals), John Lennon (vocals, rhythm guitar) , George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals). The Beatles:Paul McCartney:
John Lennon:
George Harrison:
Ringo Starr:The Beatles originated from Liverpool, England and are considered to be the most influential band of the rock era. The Beatles started out by performing around Liverpool and their first notable gig was at The Cavern Club in November 1961. From there, The Beatles then went through their touring years, around the UK, Europe and they spent extended periods of time in the US between 1961 and 1966. During their touring years, they released a new single every three months and a new album every six months. Therefore, between 1961 and 1966, The Beatles released 21 albums and 23 singles. After the touring years of the band, The Beatles went on to release six more studio albums starting with "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (released in 1967) and ending with Let It Be (released 1970). The Beatles disbanded in 1970 and four of them went on to have solo careers. Paul McCartney went on to have a long career in music and still does. John Lennon continued doing music solo until he was killed in 1980. George Harrison went on to have a career in music and in film producing until his death in 2001. Ringo Starr went on to have a career in music and still does to this day. Both Ringo and Paul were both heavily involved in the making on the new The Beatles film "Eight Days A Week" which you can watch the trailer for below. You will be able to find out about the touring years in a lot more detail through watching this film and I will soon be analysing this film on this blog. In the end, The Beatles are considered one of the most influential groups of musicians of all time and they will remain so form what I can see. It is very difficult to find out everything about The Beatles as so much went on before, during and after their career. The Beatles will always be remembered as the icon of the rock era. Sources:

Over the course of the band's career they released sixteen full studio albums (some of which were movie soundtracks), two of which went on to become the two most best-selling albums of all time. Below I have embedded a couple of Pink Floyd's songs, mainly live performances and I have analysed them with the following points: the song's meaning and audience expectations. I will then do a full analysis of Pink Floyd's style of music and some brief ideas for some visuals. PINK FLOYD - Money - Live 8:In this live performance from Pink Floyd's performance form Live 8, you can see that there aren't particularly an abundance of visuals going on within the video. However, you do notice that there are visuals being played behind the band on a screen. This is common in a lot of Pink Floyd's performances. Another common thing shown in this video is the fact that hardly any personality is shown by the band members on stage, which is unusual to today's standards. However, in my mind, doing this will make the audience focus on the music and not the band members. This can make the band a lot less commercialised. Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb:This song more than any other song on this list most defiantly demonstrates Pink Floyd's psychedelic style and the performance in this video, is also one of the best to sue to emphasise the fact thatPink Floyd do not show much personality during their live performances and this re-iterates the fact that Pink Floyd want their music to be the thing that is focussed on and not them themselves as people. Lots of laser lights were used in this performance also and in terms of making my own visuals, that's something I think I and my group could take onboard. Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall - Live - 1980:One thing you notice in Pink Floyd's performances and in this one in particular is that they play very long intervals and introductions between the actual songs. This can create more of a suspense and can make the crowd get riled up for the actual song. I also however, noticed that once again Pink Floyd's visuals in their live performances are very important and in this particular performance, a kind of giant puppet of what I am assuming is meant to be the teacher from their music video for 'Another Brick In The Wall' appears on stage during their live performances of 'Another Brick In the Wall'. Personally, I am unsure if I will be able to use a visual such as the puppet used in this performance. However, I do plan to experiment with different colour palettes and/or lighting and create some visuals that way, whether this is through a stop-motion, animatic or through live action visuals. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here - Pulse Live:As you can see, I have again linked a live performance form Pink Floyd. This one is from their performance at Pule Live and this video shows the song "Wish You Were Here". Once again, I have noticed that the lights remained much more neutral colours when the music was slow paced and a lot of laser-like lights were used. When the piano kicks in, the lights become a lot more bright and more lights are used. This fits well with the flow of the song as this means the visuals will be flowing alongside the music, which creates an effective performance. This song seems to be slow paced all the way through and the lighting defiantly reflects this by using rather neutral colours like yellow/gold and white and more lights are added when more instruments kick in and less lights are sued when the music begins to slow down even more and towards the end of the performance. Overall, it is rather evident that Pink Floyd prefer to concentrate on their visuals during their live performances rather than showing any of their personalities. As I mentioned previously, not showing their personalities could make people focus more on their music compared to the band themselves as people. In many ways, this can be a positive thing due to the fact that this could make the band a lot more commercialised, which is a positive thing, at least in my opinion. Overall, it seems that Pink Floyd's style is very psychedelic and progressive. The bass is used a lot in their songs aswell . Also, when sang live, their songs have very long intros between verses and at the beginning and end of the song. Also, it seems from the songs I've heard by this band that Pink Floyd like to sing/write about political and social issues (current events, etc.), which may be a reason for the band not showing much personality on stage and another reason for the band to make the audience focus on their music and their live visuals. During the late 60s, Pink Floyd began to become more well known by performing in the London Underground Music Scene and had two charting singles and a successful debut album: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967). This was all done whilst Barrett was the frontman of the band. Guitarist David Gilmour joined Pink Floyd in December of1967 and Syd Barrett left in April of 1968 due to his poor mental health state. After Barrett left, Roger Waters became the main songwriter and lyricist. Waters also came up with the concepts behind Pink Floyd's albums: The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), The Wall (1979) and The Final Cut (1983). The Dark Side of the Moon (1973) and The Wall (1979) went on to become two of the best selling albums of all time. Due to creative differences, Richard Wright left Pink Floyd in 1979 and Roger Waters left in 1985, also due to creative differences. After Wright and Waters left, David Gilmour and Nick Mason decided to continue as Pink Floyd. Richard Wright re-joined the band later on a session musician and then as an official band member. Wright, Gilmour and Mason went on to create two more albums: A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987) & The Division Bell (1994). Wright, Mason & Gilmour carried on touring and creating music together until 1994 when they joined again with Waters in 2005 for a one off reunion performance. Barrett unfortunately died in 2006 and Wright died in 2008. The final Pink Floyd album 'The Endless River' (2014) was made without Waters and was largely made up of un-released material from between 1993-1994. In 1996, Pink Floyd were introduced to the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and to the UK Music Hall Of Fame in 2005 and by 203, Pink Floyd had sold more than 250 million records worldwide across their entire career.
