Despite the fact we had to shoot our project over two days, I think we did well for the amount of time we had to do this project. Also, due to unfortunate circumstances, we had to re-shoot pretty much everything twice and we also only have the first edit at this moment in time. However, I do think that we could have improved our documentary in some ways. You can read more about that in my evaluation post.
Anyway, we had to book out two lights, a canon 600D, a tascam kit, a boom pole, a shotgun mic, a tripod and two light stands. Our shooting went less than excellent. We had technical problems (due to the fact that the camera batteries we were given had not been charged) and we also had an extremely limited amount of time to shoot our project (8 hours within a 24 hour time span). Overall, I think our shooting could have gone a lot better. However, due to a lack of planning on our part and due to the technical problems we encountered and due to the amount of time we had to shoot, we were unable to make the shooting as successful as we first hoped to. However, after some editing, we believe our project will be fine.

I ended up creating two final products for this project. However, neither of them were two and a half minutes long. However, due to technical difficulties and some other unfortunate circumstances, I was unable to to cater completely to the brief. However, I think that after all that has happened, I have done rather well. However, I believe that the project I created alongside my classmates turned out better than the solo project I did. The project I made by myself surrounds my grandfather's life and before I interviewed him, I did a pre-interview over Skype to insure he was okay with answering the questions I had emailed him prior. After conducting the pre-interview, I interviewed my grandfather and ended up with the final product, which have linked below. I have also linked a video of the editing process. The editing process of this documentary was rather simple as I used IMovie to edit it. However, I also think I could have improved the project by using Final Cut Pro X so I could have included several layers of b-roll. However, due to lack of time, I have not had the chance to do that. Overall, I think this documentary turned out rather well due to the amount of time I had, the fact I made it alone and the technical difficulties I ran into. Now, here is the profile documentary I created as a part of a group. This is only the first cut and we plan on doing a second cut so we can cater to the brief. However, due to time and technical difficulties, we have not had the chance. Overall, I think that despite the difficulties we ran into while creating this documentary and despite the fact it does not cater fully to the breif, it turned out rather well and it will be a good piece for our showreels. I also think that this documentary still caters to our audience (BBC 3 audience) and that is the main thing that matters.
We shot our documentary over two days. However, it only took us 4 hours in total to shoot everything (including b-roll). We shot in Sticky Bits Cafe in Carlisle and we shot everything in one room. I will include some photos from the shoots below if I can: Overall, I think the shoot went rather well, due to the fact we got everything we needed in terms of footage and audio. Also, the first cut is almost finished and therefore, we are doing well for time. However, to improve the shoot, I would have had the shoot completed in one day. However, after having some technical problems, we had to shoot between two days. However, next time we do something like this, we'll be sure to triple check the equipment so we wont encounter any technical problems.
Our brief stated that we need to make a project appropriate for a BBC 3 or BBC 4 audience. I first will be researching into both audiences and then I will be stating which audience I think my project is most appropriate for. BBC 4 Audience:From what I can tell, I'd say BBC 4 is more catered towards an older generation, at least an older generation compared to the age group that would watch BBC 3. This can be shown through the types of shows on the channel. For example: "British Gardens In Time" & "The Victorians". BBC 3 Audience:BBC 3 has always been broadcast on TV/on air. That was until earlier this year (2016) when the channels as taken off air and the BBC 3 programmes were distributed strictly online. Therefore, I think that the channel's move alone gives us an idea of what type of audience watches/watched BBC 3. From my knowledge, younger people are more likely to watch BBC 3 as it is hosted online now and from what I can tell, younger people are more likely to go online and therefore, watch TV online. However, the reason I believe younger people are the target audience is because the shows that are shown on BBC 3 are also more likely to be watched by younger people because shows like "Cuckoo" (which is a comedy/drama) is catered to a younger audience. Cuckoo Analysis:Cuckoo is a comedy which follows a British family. The daughter of the family has just come home from a year of travelling (her gap year) and is meant to be going to university after her travels. However, while on her travels, the daughter has met a man and they got married (unofficially) and she decided not to go to university. this show basically follows the daughter as she introduces her 'husband' to her family and about their life together. This show is a comedy and I think it caters towards younger audiences, due to the fact that it is now hosted online and the fact that it contains a lot of younger characters. Overall, I believe that our project will cater to a younger audience and therefore, a BBC 3 audience due to the fact that it contains issues (LGBT+) that younger people may be more interested in hearing. However, I'm sure that our project could cater to a BBC 4 audience, it just depends on how we out it together. Sources:
