For our radio drama, I wrote the script. I wrote two drafts of our script before I was happy with it. I unfortunately lost my first draft. However, I have posted the final draft below: Overall, I am happy with the final script. However, I believe if we used the whole script that it may run over five minutes. Therefore, some scenes may have to be cut. However, I still believe our drama will turn out well. However, to improve this script I think I would have done one or two more drafts because then I could decide which scenes we really need and which we can do without.

Editing this radio drama was different than anything I've done before. Due to the fact that I have never made a strictly audio project before. However, editing this drama was rather easy. It was at least easier than I expected. I cut the drama together in final cut pro X and the screenshots from my editing is below. As you can see from the screenshots, I also added in some pictures to the project as it will be uploaded to YouTube and therefore, I think the pictures may add some value to the drama to assist the listener in visualising the story.
Overall, I found the editing process rather easy and I would defiantly consider making a radio/audio project again. I think our drama will do well and despite the fact I had to download some sound effects (due to most of our Foley being lost), I till think our drama turned out really well. We recorded foley and ADR on two separate days. We recorded pretty much recorded all of the sound effects we needed on the first day. The Foley sound effects we needed are as follows: - Footsteps - Door closing - Heavy breathing - Heartbeat - Zip being done up - Someone being hit - A crushing/slicing sound - Train window opening That was the Foley sound effects we needed and we recorded all of them. We also needed some ambiance sounds to establish the scenes. The ambiance we needed was as follows: - White noise - Birds chirping - Wind - Train on tracks That was the ambiance we needed and I personally think it will work quite well. Finally, we recorded the ADR and that well really well as we had a good quality mic and a quiet, soundproof room. We also are planning on using Glenn Miller's "In The Mood" in the radio drama too as we think this will establish the era of the drama (the 1940s). You can watch al of the videos and pictures taken on our recording days below. Overall, I am happy with how the recording went as we got all of the ADR we needed and we also got all of the foley we needed. Our foley was recorded in an afternoon and our ADR was recorded within two hours. The edit took around four hours too and therefore, given the amount of time it took to make the actual production, I think e did rather well. However, to improve our drama I think we could have recorded more ambiance and we could have made our scenes sound more realistic because our production didn't have much of a variety of ambiance sounds.
In the end, we had three separate cuts of our radio drama. The reason I decided to create three cuts is because I wanted to make sure the levels of the different sounds and the dialogue were ok and I also wanted to make sure that the pauses in between scenes weren't too long. Below I have listed all three cuts of the drama and I have analysed each of them and what I could improve about each cut. First Cut:
Second Cut:
Final Cut:
Overall, I am happy with our final cut due to the fact that the sound levels were good and the visuals added a little something. However, to improve the final project overall I think I could have written a couple more drafts of the script so I would have been able to tell more of the story but still keep it within the 5 minute time frame and unfortunately, due to time, I did not have time to edit the script enough to do that.
In order to make any type of successful media, you need to know who your target audience is. therefore, I researched into what kind of audience would listen to a radio drama and what kind of audience would listen to a horror radio drama. These were my findings. The target audience I believe I have is a target audience of teenagers and young adults. The reason I believe this is because I think it is the same with movies. teenagers and young adults are more likely to watch horror movies in my opinion and form past research I have done last year. Therefore, after looking on several sites I have found that it is likely to be the same with radio dramas. However, I took a survey to find out for sure. These were my results: In a surprising turn of events, as you can see from the above analytics, nobody said they watch horror movies or would listen to a horror radio drama. However, I did not leave the survey up for long due to the amount of time I have left to finish this project. However, I already know that from my classmates' statements that my target audience would still be teens and young adult as many of them and many people they know watch horror movies regularly and would listen to a horror themed radio drama.
For our Radio Drama project, we have bene told to create a five minute long radio drama based on 'Spooky' Cumbrian myths & legends. I have found five different Cumbrian myths/legends I have decided to research is detail. I have made profiles for each myth below. Long Meg & Her Daughters:Overview: Long Meg & Her Daughters is a bronze age stone circle near Penrith in Cumbria. It was constructed as a part of a megalithic tradition that lasted from 3300 to 900 BC, during the late Neolithic and early Bronze Age. The stone circle is the sixth biggest example known from this part of north-western Europe. The circle consists of 59 stones (27 of which are upright) and they are arranged in an oval shape. Originally, there may have been as many as 70 stones in the circle. The monument is 109 metres by 93 metres in diameter. Long Meg herself stands 25 outside the circle. The site is believed to be Neolithic. There has been several theories about its purpose, such as it's use as a burial ground. However, the actual purpose of the monument is still unknown. however, another theory surrounding the circle is that it was a place where people would meet together at certain times of year (i.e. celebratory days/holidays). These days would have been determined by a different ca;lander to our own presumably. The Legend: The most famous legend surrounding this stone circle is the one that says that the cirlce of stones were once a coven of witches who were turned to stone by a wizard named Michael Scot form Scotland. The legend states that the stones cannot be counted. However, if anyone is able to count the stones correctly twice the spell will be broken or bring very bad luck. A second theory stated in the legend is that if you walk round the circle and count the number of stones correctly and then put your ear to Long Meg you will be able to hear her whispering. The name Meg is said to come form the name of a local witch "Meg of Meldon" who was alive in the early 17th century. Wordsworth:Overview: William Wordsworth was born in Cockermouth in Cumbria on the 7th of April 1770 and grew up there. He moved away however, to Cambridge to study at university in 1787. After finishing his studies, Wordsworth went travelling around Britain and Europe for 12 years until he moved into Dove Cottage is Grasmere in 1799. He lived there until 1808 when he was made to move due to his growing family and his growing amount of visitors. Wordsworth and his family lived in Allan Bank in Grasmere for a short while until they moved into Rydal Mount in 1813. The Legend/Myth: Wordsworth died in Rydal Mount on the 23rd of April 1850. It is said that his spirit still haunts the grounds of his final home. There has been several sightings over the years of Wordsworth's supposed 'spirit' manifestation, however, nothing has yet been proven to be true. The Veiled Lady Of Carlisle Rail Station:Overview: Carlisle rail station is said to be haunted by several entities: the headless man (who is said to haunt platform 8), a man who points towards the Undercroft and a veiled woman who is said to haunt the corridors. The Legend/Myth: The story of the veiled lady of Carlisle train station is said to be: she was a woman who had just got married to her husband in Gretna and she and her new husband were coming to Carlisle for their honeymoon. However, on their way to Carlisle, the groom put his head outside the window to shout for joy when the train passed by something sharp and beheaded him. The groom's body fell onto the bride's lap. When they arrived in Carlisle, the bride was found in a state of shock and she later died of a broken heart. She has been said to have haunted the station ever since. There are many Cumbria myths and legends we could base our radio drama on. However, we have decided to make our drama about "The Veiled Lady Of Carlisle Rail Station". I believe this will be an interesting story as I have a few ideas already of how I can create a flowing story from this within the given time frame (5 minutes). Sources:
