1) Why are you applying for your chosen course? I am very interested in writing for film and TV and in the production process.
2) Why does this subject interest you? I have always been interested in telling stories, whether this is through writing a script, novel or if it is through storyboarding and directing (i.e. bringing a story to life). 3) Why do you think you are suitable for the course? I have a lot of experience for someone of my age. I have worked on one professional short film already, which gained me two imdb credits and I also am currently working with the BFI in creating a second professional short film. 4) Do your current or previous studies relate to the course(s) you have chosen? - Yes: I have been studying media for just over a year and it covers all aspects of the film and TV production, production and post-production process. - Isn't a specialist subject (i.e. we learn about all areas of media, we don't get to specialise) 5) Have you taken part in any other activities that demonstrate your interest in the course? I have worked on a professional short film already and I am currently working on a second. On the first short film I worked as a writer and an assistant director. On the second film I am currently working as a writer/script writer. 6) What skills do you have and why are you excited about the course(s) you have chosen? Skills: - Create a story and characters in novel or screenplay/script format - Storyboarding - Microsoft Word/Pages, Microsoft PowerPoint/Keynote, Microsoft Excel/Numbers - Final Cut Pro X - IMovie - Use DSLR Camera - Directing - A good standard of grammar skills 7) Any other achievements you are proud of, positions of responsibility which you have held or attributes which make you interesting? - Footprints Of Our Fathers: Assistant Director & Writer - MiniCon 2016: Photographer (Green Screen Photographer & Cosplay Walk Photographer) - Oddfellows Arms: Kitchen Asistant - BFI: Writer 8) Details of jobs, work placements or work experience relative to your course: - Footprints Of Our Fathers: Assistant Director & Writer - MiniCon 2016: Photographer (Green Screen Photographer & Cosplay Walk Photographer) - BFI Script writer 9) What would you like to do after the course? Explain (how you would like) to us the knowledge and experience which you gain. After this course, I hope to go into the TV or film industry. However, I am aware that they are very difficult to get into in a lot of cases. However, I am aware that radio is a good opportunity to get into the TV and/or film industry and therefore may start off there. In the duration of this course, I hope to finalise my script writing skills, gain more experience on an actual film set and I hope to learn more bout directing and storyboarding.

When it comes to my ambitions, I actually have a list of several things I would like to achieve in the next couple of years. I will embed the list below: I have several ambitions in terms of further study and/or career. - Complete college with a distinction. - Go on to study abroad for the entirety of university. Hopefully in Toronto (The Toronto Film School) or Vancouver (The Vancouver Film School). - If I do not study abroad I would hope to attend The University Of Edinburgh and study Film and Television Production for four years and spend my year abroad in Canada. - After university, I hope to continue on to work in the film industry, whether this is in Canada or the UK. However, I would prefer to leave the UK as soon as possible. - I do have ambitions to travel the world, however, I am very aware that this requires money. and therefore, I know I will have to wait a while until I can do that unless I get to travel through my work. - My ultimate goal is to become a director/script writer and create my own films and/or tv shows. I would also like to publish my stories as books if possible. - Ultimately, I would like to own a property in a semi-rural area outside of the UK and be financially stable and be able to assist my parents in their lifestyle (i.e. buy them a house). I also want to be able to create content (films, TV shows, etc.) that I enjoy creating. Overall, I am unsure if all of the above goals will be completed in the next couple of years. However, I am certainly set out to make sure these goals are achieved.
I have compiled a list of mu current skills, when it comes to practical skills and personality attributes. I will embed the list below: Current Skills: - I can write in a novel format and love writing stories. - I can Storyboard to a decent level. - I am able to use Microsoft word/pages, Microsoft powerpoint/keynote and Microsoft excel/numbers. - I can do decent editing with Final Cut Pro X i.e. I can cut together a project and edit the sound. - I can do more advanced editing with iMovie i.e. use the effects, cut together a project, edit sound etc. - I am able to use a DSLR camera to a decent level. - I can direct to a good standard. - I can produce, however, it is not my strongest point, due to a large amount of paperwork. - I have the ability to tell a story. - I have the ability to develop characters. - I have good grammar skills. - I have the ability to describe a scenario effectively. - I have the ability to format a script/screenplay. - I have the ability to work to a deadline. - I have the ability to work consistently and effectively. - I have the ability to work alone for long periods of time. - I have the ability to work in groups for a long period of time. - I can easily log continuity while on a film set. - I am able to generate my own ideas relatively easily. - I have two imdb credits, one as a writer and one as a second unit director/assistant director. - I have a good standard of knowledge of auteur and genre theory. - I am able to mediate easily. - I have determination to achieve what I set out to do. - I am able to manage my time very effectively. - I have an extensive knowledge of multiple social medias and use them daily, if not daily, every few days. Attributes:
- I have a lot of common sense. - I possess good people skills i.e. networking is relatively easy for me. - I can work independently or in a group effectively for extended periods of time. - I can work in a high pressure environment and a fast paced environment with relative ease. - I possess a decent amount of leadership. The third university open day I attended was at The University Of Edinburgh. I remembered to take some pictures and videos at this open day and you can see those in a video below: The Campus:In my opinion, the campuses are very beautiful as Edinburgh is a beautiful city. However, the campus as a whole I would say is very poor (at least for the ECA/arts campus). I did like the look of the main campuses but the arts campus was still not up to scratch in my opinion. It was very run down and the facilities were very poor. The Accommodation:The three accommodation options available for undergraduates at this university were Baird House, Holland House and Deaconess. I did not get the chance to see Deaconess unfortunately. However, I did get to visit Holland House and Baird House on this open day. To be completely honest, the two accommodations I saw were actually very poor. I understand that older buildings can't necessarily house all the facilities some people may want. However, every room was very small and there was practically no room to move around in. The kitchen is one example. The kitchen was very small for the amount of people that would be sharing it. Therefore, I do not think this university would be the best choice for me as I know I wouldn't be happy in the accommodation. The Course:The film and television course is what drew me to the University of Edinburgh. The reason I gravitated towards this course is because of the modules and the opportunity to spend your third year either on a work placement or studying abroad. However, the course is not the best I've come across because, as I was told on the open day, there is a maximum of 40 places on the course and the tutor I met did not seem like someone I would want to work with. The facilities were also of very poor quality. Therefore, unfortunately, I do not think this course is right for me as I do not think I would get on with the tutors and the facilities are of very poor quality. The Location & Opportunities:I have always loved the city of Edinburgh. I have also found that it is a very good place to live should I want to get into the industry as there are several opportunities based right in Edinburgh. However, Edinburgh is also rather close to Glasgow and Glasgow has always been a hub of film and TV activity. However,it is also very cheap to go on the train from Edinburgh to London (or anywhere in the UK for that matter). Therefore, in Edinburgh, I believe I would have fantastic travel links which I think would serve me will for personal and business reasons. Conclusion:Overall, I think the location of the university is perfect. However, that's the only thing I can think of that I like about the university. The reason being, the accommodation is very poor and so are the facilities. The tutor I met was also rather rude and therefor, i think I will start looking at other universities. Sources:

The Campus:Granted, the campus was very beautiful and there was a wide range of accommodation options. Also, the facilities for my subject were fantastic and most defiantly of a professional standard. Also, the professors were a bit difficult in terms of personality. They were defiantly trying to sell the university but were putting other institutions down in the process. I also didn't feel very comfortable on campus and therefore, do not think I will be applying here. The Accommodation:The accommodation at York was very small and uncomfortable and therefore, if I am not going to be happy with where I am living (even if it's just one year), I do not believe there is much point in going to this university. You can defiantly see that there are some older accommodations and some newer ones. The Course:The course at York was a good one. However, years abroad are not encouraged and the Erasmus programme is the only company I could go through to spend a year abroad. Therefore, I will not be able to leave Europe during my exchange. Also, despite the fact the facilities were excellent, I just don't like the layout of the course, it doesn't give me enough time to specialise in my chosen area. The Location & Opportunities: Conclusion:Overall, I don't think that York is the right place for me for several reasons: the course is not right for me, I wouldn't get in as York is a Russell Group University because I have not attended a grammar school and I got average grades in my GCSEs. Also, I don't think I'd be happy there as the accommodation is not good quality as it is extremely cramped but expensive for what it is. Sources:

I travelled to the university with my parents by car. Unfortunately, I was unable to get any photographs or videos of my own on the day as I was not aware that we were going to be doing this unit. However, I will still talk through my experience and include some pictures of the campus I find on the internet. The Campus:The Lancaster university campus is a wonderful one. Essentially, everything you need is on campus. For example, on campus there are the following facilities other than the classrooms and accommodation: bars in the different colleges, several franchise shops, a mini-supermarket, a free bus to a supermarket every week, a shuttle bus service. The campus of Lancaster is fantastic. However, in my mind, it's a bit too isolated. It isn't in the centre of Lancaster, it's essentially in the middle of nowhere and I doubt I would leave campus very often due to the fact that practically everything is on campus and therefore, I do not think this would give me the chance to experience the 'real world' enough. i feel I would be too sheltered at Lancaster. The Accomodation:I only had the chance to look at one of the colleges at Lancaster. However, from what I could tell, the accommodation was of a good standard. The bedrooms were rather small, however, most of the rooms included an en-suite and the kitchens had all the basic you'd need. therefore, i'd say I could be comfortable in the Lancaster University accommodation. The Course:The course at Lancaster is a renowned one granted. However, after visiting the university on one of the open days, I do not think this is the right course for me. The reason being, it is an academic degree. Although I do mainly want to get into screenwriting, I do not think an academic degree would be the best thing fro me because, I also want to actually get practical experience, working on actual sets. I don't want to just sit in a classroom, analysing films. At the open day, the course lecturer informed us that the majority of the course was essay writing and analysing instead of practical experience and that is not what i want to be doing. The Location & Oppotunities:After having a look around the city of Lancaster (despite the fact that the university is set outside of the city), I do not think that it is the right place for me. Granted, it is a very beautiful city and very nice to look at. However, I don't think there would be any opportunities for me in terms of the industry and careers. I think that if I was in Lancaster, I would end up travelling outside of the city to work and Lancaster as a whole just doesn't have any opportunities in the film industry and therefore, I don't think it is the right place for em to be. Conclusion:Overall, I don't think Lancaster university would be the right place for me. The reason being, despite the fact the campus and the city is very beautiful and the atmosphere is friendly, there are no opportunities in terms of the industry and the course is not right for me. Therefore, I will be looking at other options. Sources:
